The rose has always been valued for its beauty and has a long history of symbolism.
The ancient Greeks and Romans identified the rose with their goddesses of love referred
to as Aphrodite and Venus. In Rome a wild rose would be placed on the door of a room
where secret or confidential matters were discussed. The phrase sub rosa, or
"under the rose", means to keep a secret — derived from this ancient Roman practice.
Early Christians identified the five petals of the rose with the five wounds of Christ.
Despite this interpretation, their leaders were hesitant to adopt it because of its
association with Roman excesses and pagan ritual. The red rose was eventually adopted
as a symbol of the blood of the Christian martyrs. Roses also later came to be associated
with the Virgin Mary.Rose culture came into its own in Europe in the 1800s with the
introduction of perpetual blooming roses from China. There are currently thousands of
varieties of roses developed for bloom shape, size, fragrance, and even for lack of prickles.

Large hoop designs: Roses:

Roses are the subject of this new collection. The fine colored designs and the lovely sparkle that the metallic thread adds to the design makes wonderful motifs for jeans wear, shirts, blouses etc. Rhinestones may be added to the center of the flower to add extra glitz to the design. All designs will fit a 200 mm by 300 mm hoop (7.8 inch by 11.8 inch hoop)

THE SIXTH DESIGN OF THE BLOCK OF THE MONTH EMBROIDERY QUILT :

The sixth block of the Swiss Flower Garden is on the website. The motif for this block is designed
to fit a 5” x 7” hoop. All 12 blocks will have motifs to fit a 5” x 7” hoop.
Blocks 1, 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, & 12 will have motifs available to fit a larger hoop machine.
Fabric and instructions to assemble the top row of the first three blocks will be included with the
fourth block. We still have some of Moda’s “Aviary” by 3 Sisters limited edition fabric available for
new orders. If you have not already done so, you still have time to order the first three blocks of
this unique QUILT-QUILT-AS-YOU-GO project.

Supplies:

Our stabilizers and other helpful items make embroidering easier for you and will help you get the
best results.We offer the stabilizers that we use for our embroideries which give us the best results.
For the Block of the month quilt we use the Blockmarker 17 to place the embroidery exactly there where
it has to be.

Special announcement: Quilt Festival in Long Beach

We are looking forward to meeting many of you at the International Quilt Festival in Long Beach,
California, July the 23th thru July the 26th at Booth # 1338 & 1340.

“STITCHING ON CRUISE CONTROL”

PROJECTS ANNOUNCED

Projects that will be presented on the cruise are: Mariners Compass Quilt,
Birds of a Feather Quilt, Quilted Back Pack, Quilted Purse, Five Projects for SPA Day,
and special projects for LACE Day. All the projects will include those wonderful
ZUNDT embroidery and lace designs. For a complete list of the projects, email:
janecook@beejaysquilt.com.

The projects will be presented on three AT SEA days with experienced
Quilting & Embroidery educators. The workshop projects you select, will include kits
containing all the instructions and materials you will need for each project.
For those who want to spend more time sewing on their projects, The Zundt Group will
have full access to three conference rooms for the entire cruise. Educators will monitor
the conference rooms to help with projects. You may bring your favorite embroidery machine
if you like or we will have new Husqvarna/Viking embroidery machines for you to share during
the cruise. The fee for all five workshop projects will be $360.00. Workshop fees are due with final payment.

We will cruise aboard Royal Caribbean International’s MARINER OF THE SEAS cruise ship. We will sail
from Los Angeles on September 20th with ports of call in Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.
We will return to Los Angeles on September 27th.
